Online Music Streaming Service Spotify goes Live in European App Store
Spotify has hit the App Store in the UK, Sweden, Spain, France, Norway, and Finland. That means subscribers to Spotify’s service will have access to the millions of songs store in Spotify’s database anywhere and anytime there is a wireless or Wi-fi signal on their iPhone or iPod Touch. Even if no internet connection is available, users can dig into cached songs for offline playback.
Spotify app has other neat features as well. Even though music is streamed to your iPhone, it plays almost instantaneously as soon as the user hit the Play button. Spotify attributes this feature to P2P technology. Playlist can also be created within the Spotify app. Users can synchronize their desktop playlists to the iPhone app and vice versa with ease.
The European approval for on-demand music service bodes well for future such services to appear in the U.S. Real Network has already submitted their subscription based on-demand iPhone app, Rhapsody. It is just waiting for Apples’s approval to appear in the App Store.
Apple appears to have taken a more relaxed view on music streaming apps, as it competes with its own iTunes service. It could be a beginning of a mobile music revolution, as users finally go from a pay-per-download model to the monthly subscription model.
